The Power of “Just 10% More Regulated”
One of the biggest misunderstandings about healing is this:
We think we have to feel calm before anything can change.
Fully settled.
Fully grounded.
Fully okay.
But that’s not how the nervous system works.
Healing doesn’t come from being perfectly regulated.
It comes from being just a little bit more regulated than you were before.
Even 10% is enough.
Because when your nervous system shifts even slightly out of survival mode, just a small step out of fight, flight, or shutdown, something opens.
You can think a little more clearly.
You can feel without being completely overwhelmed.
You can pause instead of react.
And that small shift begins to change everything.
Most of us get stuck because we aim for too much.
We try to force calm.
We try to override anxiety.
We try to “fix” how we feel.
And when that doesn’t work, it can feel like we’re failing.
But your nervous system doesn’t respond well to force.
It responds to safety.
To gentleness.
To small, tolerable shifts.
So instead of asking, “How do I feel completely better?”
Try asking:
“What would 10% more regulated feel like right now?”
Maybe it’s a slightly slower breath.
Maybe it’s feeling your feet on the ground.
Maybe it’s softening your shoulders just a bit.
That’s enough.
Because healing isn’t a leap.
It’s a series of small, doable shifts that your nervous system can actually tolerate.
And over time, those small shifts begin to add up.
More space.
More flexibility.
More choice.
You don’t need to be fully calm to begin.
You just need a little bit more room than you had a moment ago.
